This Standard specifies the production and technical specifications of non-powered air-purifying particle respirator, and the dust mask has strict requirements for testing on material, structure, appearance, performance, filtering efficiency (dust-proof rate), respiratory resistance, testing methods, product identification, packaging, etc. The material of the dust mask must be non-irritating and non-allergenic to the skin,and the filter material is harmless to the human body.The dustproof mask is simple in structure and convenient to use.Its filtration efficiency (dust removal rate) is more than 95% for non-oily particulate matter with a diameter of 5 μm,and its filtration efficiency (dust removal rate) is more than 70% for non-oily particulate matter with a diameter of 2 μm.

This Standard does not apply to respiratory protective equipment against

fighting.

KN95s are closely related to N95s, but only the latter is approved for use in medical settings in the U.S., and the reasoning is pretty simple: N95s are the U.S. standard, while KN95s are the Chinese standard for these close-fitting filtration devices. Both are rated to filter out 95 percent of very small particles.
Due to the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the U.S. at the start of the pandemic, the CDC has authorized the use of KN95 masks as a suitable alternative for N95 masks.
